back during the pre-colonial period, Our ancestors cherished their hair as their pride and joy. So when it is cut it's either a sign of shame or mourning.

Baba/Papa/Father being referred here is the Madya-as Confederation
This is Visayas a few years later after the official declaration of Conquering the Philippine Islands and during that time Visayas just found out that Madya-as is no more (which became present day Panay)
